His long list of credits include; the supporting role as Marshall Grant in the award winning film Walk The Line, as Shirl Kendrick in Saints and Soldiers, and as ICE in Hocus Pocus. Larry Bagby has appeared in TV shows such as The Young and the Restless, CSI, JAG, and Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Internationally recognized for his All-American, Guy-next-door characters, as well as, his comedic and dramatic roles, his most recent role is as Flask in Age of The Dragons starring Danny Glover, the film is set to release March 4, 2011 in the UK.
Larry Bagby’s true passion has been, and remains, as a musician. His acting experiences, coupled with a solid background in character study, has given Larry the ability to craft a song for fans from any walk of life, audiences immediately identify with the storyteller. He has a gifted songwriting and musical style that is uniquely his own, yet is equal to the real star powers of today’s Country Music Scene. His original songs have been featured in the films The Day the Earth Stood Still, and the Title Track in The Break Up Artist. Bagby also performed the only original song, “Counting My Lucky Stars,” along side Tim McGraw’s music in the CBS hit show Cold Case Files.
An in-demand live entertainer, Larry Bagby has opened for such acts as Hal Ketchum and The Bacon Brothers, has performed alongside members of Johnny Cash’s Tennessee Three and has recently worked with Charles Kelly (Lady Antebellum), and actor and recording artist Tyler Hilton, writing and recording their collective effort “Drive Away.”
Larry’s musical talents have lead him to Nashville, where he competed for a spot on USA Networks’ show, Nashville Star. Larry was chosen out of 20,000 competitors to go to Nashville and compete with 56 regional finalists vying for one of 10 coveted spots on the show.
No stranger to Tennessee, Larry spent the summer of 2004 in Memphis, shooting the critically acclaimed film, Walk The Line, alongside Hollywood stars Joaquin Phoenix and Academy-award winning actress, Reese Witherspoon. Based on the life of Johnny Cash, Walk The Line features Larry in the role of “Marshall Grant” -- Cash’s best friend and stand up bass player.
With an acting career that spans more than 20 years, Larry also starred in the award-winning film, Saints and Soldiers, as the card trick playing, cigarette loving southern boy “Shirl Kendrick”. Aside from winning 21 Best Picture awards from film festivals around the U.S., Saints and Soldiers were also nominated for Best First Feature and Best Cinematography in the 2004 IFP Independent Spirit Awards.
In conjunction with his many guest appearances on shows such as CSI, JAG, and Malcolm in the Middle, Larry is perhaps most noted for his recurring guest spot on Buffy the Vampire Slayer as football hero “Larry Blaisdell.” As a youth, he also co-starred in the films Hocus Pocus and Airborne, among other films. Larry can be seen in numerous commercials and lends his voice to a cadre of entertainment projects. Bagby still enjoys the rush of doing stand up comedy where he is known for his eerily realistic impressions of Chewbacca and Michael J. Fox.
Larry Bagby was exposed to the musical world early on in life. His father played in a dance band and Larry was known to jump on stage and start entertaining the crowd alongside his talented father. However, it was Larry’s debut performance as “Oz” in the play The Wizard of Oz at the tender age of 8 that really got him interested in music.
Since that time, Larry has been writing, singing, and playing his own originals. He recorded his first 4 track when he was in junior high and over the years his musical talent has progressed into prolific songwriting and live performances. Within the last couple of years, his songs have been included in several independent film projects and he received national airplay for his vocal rendition of “America Stands Tall.” However, his musical talent goes beyond belting out tunes. He plays the piano, guitar and stand-up bass and self-produced his latest album, Where I Stand, with Sam Nickell and Curt Piar, two of his band members.
Larry Bagby’s vast catalogue encompasses a wide array of musical genres ranging from Country to CHR, and also includes the stylings of early Rock and Roll. With his many exceptional talents expect to see much more of the Actor on-screen as well as the Musician on-stage for many years to come.
