Was That My Home?

(The LArry Bagby Band LIve)

Larry and Dustin Bagby
We stopped at the Hard Rock Hotel in Las Vegas after having a nice 4 hour conversation about life and where it is going for us both. I love road trips with my brother. Dustin. He is a fun guy with the sound mind of my father and unique observation skills of my mother .He always gives good advice and even though we are 7 years apart he gives me ,the older brother, ideas that help me see things in a different light. As we do every road trip I was playing my giuitar in the car while he drove. I had this little riff I was picking and I knew it was about me traveling and looking back on my life. Where I came from , where I have been, and wondering where I am going. My brother threw a couple ideas my way about what he thought I was trying to say and we were off and running .The lyrics just spilled out. By the time we left Vegas the next day it was done or at least on its way. I have tweaked the lyrics over the last month but I think it captures my emotion and feeling on my life after divorce and wondering if that was my home. The bridge goes into a section that leads you to believe that this was about the passing of a lover or soul mate and I am not sure why it felt like I needed to go that way but it did. You can take it as you will. The emotion started from personal experience and then drifted to others' experience. Whatever it did it felt and feels right and thats what I try to go by as a song writer. Matching the music, melody and song with the lyrics. I thank my ex for all she taught me and wish her the best with her new husband and her future son Ace as he will be born this month. I pray for her and her family's well being and looking back it was an important time in my life and a great learning experience. It's good therapy to write for me. I was surprised there is some of that left in me. I think this song has been around for years but I was not yet prepared to write it and face the reality. I am now in a better place and thank God for helping me understand the purpose of that relationship. I am in a happy healthy place and look forward to meeting the girl that I will make my family with and call my home. I hope someone can find some peace in this and make it your own. I know music and lyrics speak to us all in different ways. To date these lyrics feel like some of my clearest. Thanks to my brother Dustin who help me clarify my ideas. I could not have done it without him. This song has not been recorded in a studio yet but this is one of the first live versions recorded at Molly Malones Thursday Feb 7th 2007. I would love your feedback on what you think and how and if this song speaks to you in any way.

Was That My Home?
Written by: Larry and Dustin Bagby

Traveling down this road I recognize this place I use to call my home
Looking through closed windows leaves sweet bitter taste I’m left standing alone

Chorus
Was that my home?
I’ll never know
Was that my home?
Once warm now cold

Verse

Lye here in this bed her scents the only trace
That smell I once called home
Memories flood my head I long to touch her face
Once life now cold as stone

Chorus

Bridge
Take my hand my love,
Help me guide me from above
And when my time has come
Call my name into your arms I’ll run…
…I’m coming home!

Verse

Wandering down lifes road
face weathered , body worn
I hear her cry come home
Staring at the light, deep breath
peace falls, Gods grace
He’s letting me come home

Chorus
I’m coming home
This place I know
I found my home……….I’ll never go.
